It was the best of dines …
By Ryan DuVall
Another year has passed and there has been a lot of good, a little bad and, well, just way too many coney dogs for me to count. But it is time for me to unveil my best-of list for 2006, and I want to clarify that this list takes into account only restaurants I have dined at – not reviewed necessarily – over the last 365 days.
Best breakfast
I don’t roll out of bed early enough often enough to enjoy breakfast out, but when I do, I usually head to Spyro’s Pancake House at Bluffton and Sandpoint roads.
And the first thing I order when I go is orange juice, which is freshly squeezed on site. With oranges coming into season, this is the best time of year to have that juice. And, yes, there is plenty more to Spyro’s than just the juice.
The skillet meals are a fine option for those with a hearty appetite, but my favorite selection there is the skirt steak and eggs.
Spyro’s skirt steak is marinated for more than 24 hours to ensure the leathery cut of beef is tender and it has a great flavor.
The pancakes, which come with about every breakfast offered, are fluffy, light and delicious, and the coffee is hearty, hot and your cup will never go empty.
